Unplanned meeting at the Panera...Snow Fatigue!
So...back to the fab store. When Granny Bee got ready to leave, she turned around and pointed her finger at me and said, "Cindy, you need to start enjoying winter. You just need to snuggle in and do some crafts and relax because summer will be here before you know it." Really? Summer will be here before I know it?....Oh good...when? And when I asked if I could take a picture of her pointing that finger at me she said no!
Oh my gosh, this lady just said dammittohell on the Hallmark Channel. I thought only my family said that word! really? That's a nationally known word?
So, I've been thinking...why was last year the best winter ever, (I remember telling someone that) and this one is not so fun? Well, the weather lady said everyone has "Snow Fatigue" this year. It's a new term they made up. She said we've had a foot more snow already this year than what we usually have all season. And we haven't seen the sun in days. The only other thing I can think of right now is the fact that I'm not getting out much with friends. Oh I'm getting out... library, bank, grocery store... but I'm not getting out and laughing and having fun with friends. Every now and then a persons gotta get out.
I happened to check my e-mail this morning, and there was one from TH (Places Where Grace Is blogspot) asking me if I'd like to meet her and the Queen (Queen of Whatever blogspot) for lunch TODAY. I didn't know if I could make it. I already had appointments... a mammogram, the bank, the car wash, and I was going out tonight with my Dad and Sister and I had to dress up. I e-mailed back and told her I would try, depends on how long I'm at the Women's Ctr. (please pray for a clean mammo. I've had lumps before, so I get nervous about them.)
But make it, I did. And I had fun. I laughed and laughed. Do you know that laughter is good for the soul? It's also good for Snow Fatigue! It was especially funny when the Queen sort of sloshed coffee on TH's computer (it was closed) and she started grabbing napkins and wiping up coffee furiously..before TH saw her. But I think she kind of did it on purpose. You see, the Queen, being the Queen, is not used to being bossed around by people who just, well you know, live in the village. And at one point during lunch, TH asked the Queen to go get her some coffee! Yikes! I said nary a word. The queen and I exchanged looks. You know the one. The surprised wrinkled forehead big eye look!

But then, she did go get the coffee. I dunno....
(did you know you can put your digital camera up to a mirror - say like in your bathroom - and you can see the "view window" in the mirror?)
And I kind of think TH might have some symptoms of Snow Fatigue. She wanted me to have a new background for my blog, but she certainly made no secret of the fact that she did not like anything I was picking out. And when I first opened my computer and handed it to her, she pushed it back and said, "here, SIGN ON."
Um okay...
Now, no one told me it was show and tell day, but luckily I had the foresight to grab a couple of grannies before I left the house.
Queen: It's too loose, what size are you using, you need a 5.5
Me: Well, I think it's a G.
Queen: What's the number?
Me: No number...just a G.
Queen: There's gotta be a number. It's gonna stretch out way too much when you put it on the bed. Use a 5.5
Me: I'll check for a number when I get home, but I can't use a smaller needle on that blue yarn. It's really big yarn.
Queen: I think you can (Snow Fatigue?).
Then TH takes out her fingerless mitts that she made. I didn't get a picture of them, but maybe she'll post them on her blog if we ask her nicely. Then she hands me a bag and says, "here, this is for you."
"For me?"
"wow I love it."
"I want you to roll it on your mechanical winder."
"ooooh okaaay. It's not really FOR me. I get it."
I think the Queen was a little offended at this because she wanted to know what was wrong with the way her Assistant makes yarn balls. Then TH got all nervous when I started talking about how I hope my dog doesn't pee on it, he has you know...peed on my yarn. Then I said I might try making a granny square or two with it on a 5.5 hook before I give it back! I was cracking myself up. I really was.
Then it was the Queen's turn. Ahem....as if we didn't notice the hat on her head already...she only commented on it several times. She even mentioned that she thought several people at Panera were looking at it. Really? Do you think..
She really didn't want me to show this picture because the hat looks like a big bubble...kind of full...but it wasn't at all. She informed us she had to alter the pattern to fit her micro-sized head. Her exact words. She didn't say it in a pompous queen sort of way, just in a matter-of-fact way. What she didn't hear me say, because everyone was talking at once was, "hmmm, that reminds me of the time I was with a friend who asked, "do these jeans make my butt look too SMALL!" Yes folks, my friend really did say that. Thirty years ago. I never forgot it. I quit hanging with her. She wouldn't say it now... ahem...just sayin'....
Oh my gosh, this lady just said dammittohell on the Hallmark Channel. I thought only my family said that word! really? That's a nationally known word?
Anyway, my time was cut short because my Shug called. He came home from work sick today. He's still sick. He's already called in to work tomorrow. Poor guy. Then my Dad got here and we were getting ready to leave. He told me he felt like he was going to throw up, and he was real tired. I said, "maybe you better go home." He said he'd like to. So much for going out with Dad and Sis tonight. I stayed home. And I looked outside a few minutes ago and this is what I see....

Granny Bee visits the Fabric Store!
I've been making a few Grannies.....
pinks...purples....blues....can't remember the colors in the rug...
So she gets her yarn, sets down her purse, whips out her cell phone, brings up my blog, and starts matching yarn with my rug from the picture of it that I posted.
I remember now. I used it for these.
and just not liking them. Oohhh they're ok, but I don't like the maroonish yarn at all...it's too fuzzy. I just felt like my afghan needed some ooomph.
So I decided to go to the Fabric Store, that sells yarn, since I had a couple of coupons for 40 & 50 percent off. And here I go again...getting all confused.
pinks...purples....blues....can't remember the colors in the rug...
So I have all this yarn laid out on the floor at the fab store, with these two grannies, needing some serious help, and my cell phone rings...it's the Granny Bee!
She is out and about....and needed some yarn....so she came to my rescue!
But before helping me, she walks in and picks up three skeins of yarn, quicker than you can snap your fingers. Just like that. And apparently I must have given her a look because she said, "I need it to bind my rug." I'm thinking...yeah..but how do you KNOW those are the colors you want when there are four rows of yarn here? And did you even look at the end caps?" But I didn't say that because I don't have the time for both of us to be confused.
So she gets her yarn, sets down her purse, whips out her cell phone, brings up my blog, and starts matching yarn with my rug from the picture of it that I posted.
"Do you have any mustard color at home Cindy?," she says.
"Mustard? Nope, don't think so." I say.
"You need mustard."
"I do?"
She hands me her phone.
I do.
These are the colors I need to match the rug and give the afghan more oomph.
So I buy it, come home, and look right there in that basket! For the love of God and all that is holy...it's mustard! (is it ok if I say that? I saw it in the comment section on the Queen's blog and I liked it http://thepalacepost.blogspot.com/2011/01/alert.html)
Hello?
Right there in the basket, in front of the couch that I sit on every night. {sigh}
But it doesn't match as well as the color we matched up with her phone pic, which is actually called "honey"....I even love the name...honey...The Granny Bee helped the Bee Lady pick out the color honey.... Sweet....it's right there in the middle...
And would you look at this....they match the rug perfectly! ('cept for the mustard-on the end)
Stay tuned for more about our fab store visit in the next post.

I'm sueing the yarn stores!
I think I'm going to sue the yarn stores in Indiana, including Hobby Lobby & JoAnn Fabric. Because I have too much yarn and material, and they sold it to me. It's not MY fault, they are the ones that sell it.
Yes, I'm joking...but did you hear about the 'tumbling texter' ? She was texting and fell into the mall fountain, and now she wants to sue the company whose employee put it on You Tube. It's hilarious, and it got a lot of hits. Would she sue if she got $10,000 for it because someone turned it in to Funniest Home Videos? And I didn't even hear about it until SHE went on the news to complain. At one point it looks like she is trying not to laugh. It shouldn't even go to court, but it will. I can see it now if things like this continue to clog our court systems.
Yarn Store (YS): Uh Cindy, how many skeins does that make for you today?
Me: Uhhh, what's the limit?
YS: How many Cindy, fess up.
Me: Well, I just want to make this granny square blanket....
YS: But don't you have yarn in your basment that you can use?
ME: Yes but I just need this one shade of blue....
YS: Sorry Cindy, we have to take responsiblity for your actions now.
Ridiculous huh? Yup....just sayin'.....
OK, back to the yarn part.....
Remember last week when I was going to go yarn "shopping" in my basement? I did. I'm trying to focus on making some things for our new house, and using what I have. And I like the colors in this pillow, so I thought I'd try to match it, maybe for our bedroom...
And after all of that, here's the problem. The skeins are way too different in size to put together in the same blanket. And I tried to double up the blue, for example, and it kept tangling and just wasn't worth the trouble.
See what I mean about the different sizes.
So I changed directions. I decided to try to find some skeins that the yarn is close to the same size....and maybe in those shades...
I have a lot of the blue, the maroonish color. And the cream and green above are big skeins....so I think these would work well together, and be enough for a blanket.
Then I decided to throw in a few other colors when I realized that those skeins match this rug
I could add matching shades of yarn that I already have, but I don't have a lot of these shades. Just some leftover balls of yarn.
What do you think? Add the different shades, or not?
And I'm also trying to decide...
remember when I made this granny square below? I was seeing if I could make it, so I practiced with some leftover yarn. Seems everyone has one but me :-(
So, do I make a bunch of these squares and sew them together, or do I just keep going around and making one big blanket...
So crafters, how do you decide what to do? And what would you do? One big one, or a bunch of grannies sewn together? See why I never finish anything, I'm tired of it before I even get started! Hell, I'm even tired of working on this post!
If I use your idea...I better like it when I'm done, or I might sue!
