What is it?

Remember this? Blog Stalker Beth and http://gowestferalwoman.blogspot.com/ figured out what it is. And in case you didn't see the comments, it's part of a homemade victorian chatelaine, and the opening is a thimble holder. For more info, check out the comments on this post. http://thebeeladyfromhilltopfarm.blogspot.com/2011/03/craftyness.html Now I know this isn't as old, as it's made out of plastic, but does anyone know what it is? Or what I could use it for? That's the lid and it fits in my hand, about the size of a juice glass. I've been going through stuff for our move, and putting some things in my friends booth to sell. It's hard to know what to do with something when you don't know what it is!

  2. I think I remember one of these used as a toothpick holder at my Great Grandmothers. It sat at the dining table. When I asked her about it she said it was a discreet why to have them handy. Then again, maybe that was just what Granny used it for.

  3. I have an app on my phone called Goggles that's suppose to take the image and identify it but no such luck. :( Hmmm....you've got me curious. I hope you learn what it is. I'd be interested in knowing now too! :)

  5. I think Janis is correct. Found one on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/listing/66136096/vintage-celluloid-toothpick-holder-and?ref=cat1_gallery_11 I don't know how old this particular piece is, but celluloid items were pretty common as early as the 30's.

  6. Be careful with the tall plastic looking thing...could be ivory(sometimes for the untrained eye it is hard to tell) and sometimes they were used to hold cocktail picks or picks for seafood and other things. I do have a few of the ivory pieces myself.

  7. LORDY Love a duck! A friend of mine used to say that all the time and you'd use it like...Good Lord I'da never guessed a toothpick holder! Whoda thunk it?

I think I've found a way to get Blog Stalker Beth out of her little shell folks. She likes to investigate things....hmmmm...I'll see what else I can find for her to investigate around my house. I have a tonage of unknown, "strange" items.

I think I'll use this at my next cocktail party...I'll invite all of you! Of course it'll be a few years.....

Ivory? really? Sure feels like plastic to this untrained eye. I hope it is....ivory would probably mean an elephant lost it's life so I could have a place to put toothpicks, and I don't even use them. Maybe I'll just fill it up with floss and put it in the bathroom.
