In my blog I plan to chat about nature, crafts, baking, gardening, beekeeping, family, and whatever else seems appropriate at the time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Brown County and LIfe...continued...

First of all, I want to thank all of you for the kind words about Winston. The poems, the e-mails, the comments, it all meant a lot.  It made me want to be a nicer person.  I announced this to my groovy girl crochet friends last night, and they all wondered aloud...."how long will that last?"

OK so yesterday I woke up, after not much sleep the night before, said good-bye to my Shug as he left for work, and tried to go back to sleep.  No dice.  (No dice?  Don't know where that came from, I don't recall ever saying it)  Anyway, I couldn't get back to sleep, so I decided I'd get up and get my shower....and THIS was in the shower!  After calling Dad, then Mom (at work) and neither of them would come over and kill it, I had to take matters into my own hands.  I took a shoe, and screamed while hitting it...three times!  ACK!
Then today, after having slept like a baby last night, I woke up to the sound of my husband yelling, "Cindeeee, your dog peed all over the bathroom and I stepped in it."  So, I get out of bed, go into the bathroom, and proceed to clean it up, while he walks to another area, and steps in more pee, then continues walking around.
What the "H"?
First of all, I tell my Shug to stop walking around and go get in the shower.  Jeeeesh....
And What the "H"? again.
Why is Dixie now peeing in the house?  He did pee in the house when we first got him, then we got him housebroken, then when Winston came along, they had pissing contests (pardonemme' my French and my spelling).
Anyway, at least it wasn't on something, but rather on the floor.  He's taking to peeing like a girl lately.
So, here's my take on the situation....I heard him gagging sometime during the night, so I think he gagged, got thirsty, decided to drink up then had to go pee so he did.
Oh yeah, and there was also puke in his bed.
So by 6:00 a.m. this morning, I cleaned up two pees, a puke, and did two loads of laundry.
I wonder what tomorrow will bring.
I wonder if I'm going to start liking country life.
I wonder if I will ever get a routine established.
Ok, so let's pick up where we left off with the Brown County trip.  Only let's make it fast, because quite frankly, life goes on, and I'm ready to get that weekend over! This is the rustic cabin we stayed in, in Brown County State Park.
This was breakfast my Shug brought from the lodge to the cabin.  I'm not even going to explain.
 We shopped
There are several blocks of old houses and log-cabins that have been turned into stores.
 We ate
This is my favorite coffee shop down there.  The Daily Grind.  It's my favorite because they have good chicken salad sandwiches and they always put lots of whipped cream on their latte's.

After some shopping and lunch we went back to the park for a hike.

I wonder if any of these people are still together.
There were actually a lot more fall colors than it looks like in the pics.

Bummer about the steps.
Then we went back in town, did some more shopping and had some fried biscuits with apple butter.  YUM!

You see a lot of old stuff in Brown Co.,
 and at garage sales.
I didn't even ask how much the stove cost, but I loved it.  No way to get it home.

A few of the signs we saw in Brown Co.   My Shug bought this one!
And these were at the coffee shop.
Wish I had one of those cookies about right now!

  1. Oh no .... poor you. Spiders and a dog peeing where he shouldn't - neither are good ways to start the day in my book! Maybe Dixie is unsettled what with the move and Winston not being around any more. I'm guessing those could be factors in his behaviour ... or maybe he's got a tummy bug (if he's puking too)... or maybe he's just being a bad doggie! Whatever, I sure hope he stops right away. You tell him from me!

Looks like you had a great weekend trip though and some good weather too (it's been raining a lot here - I'm ready for some sunshine!).

  2. Oh I wish I had one of those cookies too.
I am still laughing about the pee and puke I have no idea why sorry:0 it must be the way you described it.
I hope all works out and it has nothing to do with country life.
Love the trip and I like your breakfast(I hope you were not going to say Yuck)
Take care my friend I need to go scour my cupboards and find something sweet. Yeah I bought those kids Halloween stuff that's a start I may need more. Hugs B

  3. Well this day did not start out to great for you. I hope it got better as it went along. I usually have to kill spiders myself too. Get a fly swatter and keep it handy, you live in the woods and in the basement, there are going to be spiders, I know that for a fact. I too wondered if I would ever like living in our country home. I found it hard to believe after growing up most of my childhood in the country why I found it so hard to settle in. But I am doing better at it. See you tomorrow!!!:)

  5. Cindy, We used to go to brown county every fall with my daughters and even some of their friends...stay all night, hike, shop, and have picnics. I love that state park there. We would always go to Bean Blossum and buy things too. Glad you had fun at brown county. Cindy, when I see spiders, I tell Ted"get the gun". I get goosebumps on my scalp just thinking of them. Smiles, xo, Susie

  6. Bloomington and Brown County; my two favourite places in the state.

We should get together for lunch or something the next time you head down that way.

Is Dixie running a fever? From the accidents, to the squatting, to the upset stomach, well, it sounds rather like a UTI or kidney infection.

  7. Hey Cindy,
Just last night I made Matt get up out of bed and get a spider out of the hallway because there was NO WAY I would be able to sleep with it not contained, or Dead. He scooped it up and but outside! So I hear you!

Yes Dixie may be sick or ate something new in the new homestead or is just missing Winston. The yacking was probably dixie up chucking. Keep an eye open.

Brown county looks like a very nice visit.

  8. Have you thought about a doggie door so he can go out at night to pee? I had a hell of a time with Pee when I put Misty down. He trashed a lot of stuff in my house. He was mad that she was gone and he was alone. And I had no way of explaining to him where she went. Try the cage/crate at night too. Good luck hon.
