Gotta Stress Less

Oh my gosh did I ever sleep well last night. First time in a long time that I didn't wake up in the night. And I appreciate all of your kind comments. I do think it's going to be a rough road for awhile.

Here's the scoop.

I apparently have something called Burning Mouth Syndrome. I know, I've never heard of it either and I thought I was going crazy, so I did a little research to find out where I should start. Doctor, Dentist, ENT? Went to the dentist yesterday. He gets a patient a month with it. And there are a plethora of things that can cause it, but no one knows what exactly causes it. So it looks like I'm on my own. I'm trying a few things such as multi-vitamin, changed my heart (blood pressure) med, and trying to stress less. That's the hard one. Stress less. And that's a biggie for me. I know that about me, and I'm working on it. It's hard when there's a lot of "irons in the fire." Do you think those "irons" they speak of were the irons of the old days women used to iron clothes?

The other thing I did was, somehow, hurt my foot. The doc gave me a cortisone shot right by the ankle in the subtalar joint. OUCH! It's a little better, but I really feel like I need to bend my foot in half to pop something back in place.

And the last two evenings have been spent at the hospital, as well as a couple of hours yesterday, during the day. As I said yesterday, my MIL fell and broke her hip Monday night. She had surgery last night. She broke it in several pieces and they used a pin to put it back together. They will start some sort of therapy today, but it will be six weeks before she can put any pressure on her hip. And the unfortunate part is the therapy place she will be living at will probably only keep her for three weeks. This is according to the Doctor. So we are going to have some decisions to be making. Lots of them I'm afraid. She still lives alone and drives herself to her appointments and doesn't want to give it up. And my husband is the only child living in the same town. Not sure what's going to happen with all of that. One day at a time.

Less stress....right. I need a mantra.....

The only good thing about being at the hospital is you have time to crochet.

"Crochet my cares away...."

I don't know why, but I don't like this star so much.

I thought the fuzzy "Martha Stewart" yarn would look good, but I can't like it. Maybe if it were a different color? Speaking of Martha.....got a story to tell you....in another post....this one is getting too long.

I try to make one of these a night. I've still got the trim to do on some of them, and to tie in the ends, but I think they are cute. I'm not sure yet if they will be ornaments or bunting. We'll see.
I don't think I've shown you this ornament. Another pattern from Attic 24. I think the beak makes it looks vulturish!

Should have made an all black one....maybe with some road kill by it! Hmmm...I'm gonna try an all black one...those Granny Bee primitive people would probably like it!

This isn't a mitten at all, it just looks like a mitten. It's small and the thumb is just some sort of bobble like stitch made to look like a thumb. Kind of looks like a vulture beak to me! I got it from a Christmas Crochet book I picked up at the library. You're supposed to make a bunch of them and use them as bunting. I can't decide if I like it.

And this...I'm really enjoying. It'll be some sort of stuffed pillow. I've used all recycled items.

I especially like the beak, made from a tie! My idea! (what is it about beaks today? Think it has something to do with burning mouth syndrome?) I'll show you the finished product, soon I hope. Right now the pieces are just laying there, stacked on each other. I wanted to make a bunch of them for the Granny Bee Christmas open house, but not sure I'll have the time. I'm gonna try. I also plan on making smaller ones to use for applique's or ornaments. I got the original idea from Boho Farm. Click on Boho Farm to see how cute hers are.

When I start crafting, my mind just doesn't stop. Does.not.stop.

I'm stopping now...Buh Bye...

PS - Oh gosh...I didn't stop now, did I? I wanted you all to know that I have this friend who is a tecky, but disguises herself as a nurse. She downloaded an app on my I-phone that lets me read all of your blogs while I'm doing things like sitting around in hospital waiting rooms. So, I am reading your blogs, just don't know how to comment from my phone. Bye...for real.

ME again - the star and tree pattern came from The Royal Sisters blogspot.
Or check out this post to see how I found it.

  1. Aren't iPhones handy?!! Usually on those apps there is a little icon in the bottom left corner that looks like a piece of paper and a pen ... click on that to type a comment.

Love your decorations ... what pattern did you use for your star? I could make some of those!!

Hope you're feeling better soon and that you can sort out some way of looking after your MIL. Meanwhile, keep crocheting - it's the answer!!

  6. I really like the fuzzy pink star. Makes me smile. Not liking the beak bird at all....don't know why...just not feeling it.

Cortisone shots can hurt but mostly they are just shots. I'm giving alot of flu shots recently and grown adults lean away from me when I'm giving them...hello. Suck it up. oh sorry anyway remember it takes about 3 days for the shot to kick in....so be patient (I know, it's hard to be patient when you're in pain)

    Crocheting is the answer!

You have an iphone too? We were at a family party and every single person there had an iphone but me and my hubs. Even the 18 year old got one for his birthday. And they say there's a recession! I don't think so.

Keep crocheting and praying and resting as best you can.

  7. I like the pink star also. I have a small tinsel tree that it would look great on. So get a silver tinsel tree and make a bunch and de-stress while you are at it. I think the owl will be great since it is not put together maybe you can shorten the beak just a little. Happy thoughts Cindy Bee.
