In my blog I plan to chat about nature, crafts, baking, gardening, beekeeping, family, and whatever else seems appropriate at the time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Sailing!

I've been going through some old 'drafts' that never got published...probably because something else came up, and I didn't have time to post!  I think I will start publishing some of them, in between other posts.
This one was to show you about some stuff I got at a garage sale, when my Shug and I stopped at a couple one morning when we were running errands together, this past summer.
These came in a box with other stuff.  I couldn't decide between these, that match my wall hen perfectly and would look cute sitting on the shelf,

or the ones already sitting on the shelf that I like for their color, but don't really use.  So far, I still have the red, blue, yellow ones sitting there.  Do you use little cups like that for coffee and tea, or do you use mugs?  Personally I use mugs.  I decided though that my style of decorating is not so much 70's colors.  I grew up in the 70's with the greens, browns, and golds, but I'm more into the cottage-type colors.
I loved this milk glass cookie jar?  I already have one, but couldn't resist another.  Which is why I had to quit sailing!  (those lines are probably from the sun...they aren't on the jar)
And these...I've never seen before, but this is what I was buying the 'box of stuff' for, not the mugs.  Can you believe they were all in the same box?  I have a lot of milk glass and some day when we move upstairs I'd like to use it.
This serving tray.  I just love these and I do use them.  I have two in my kitchen now.  And those marks are on the tray...but it can be painted.
I can always find a place to throw another blanket....
or quilt!

I think I paid $3.00 for this big pot and I used it right away.  I don't think they ever used it.

Forgot all about these!  These are the types of table cloths I use at Christmas.  And I usually set up extra tables for Christmas Eve so these will be perfect.

This bluebird was in the box of stuff too.  As was the lace tablecloths.

Love Mr. Rooster!
I miss "sailing".  I used to go every weekend with my friend.  She turned it into a business and I started building a house, and my Shug doesn't work the weekends as much as he used to.  I also miss the social part of it.  But as you can see, I buy too much stuff!  I love a good deal.  I am hoping to have some fun, flea market type days out here when we finish the house.  I'll sell some of the stuff I don't use when we get moved upstairs.

PS - I found a couple of good articles about Osage Orange trees.  This is the tree that grows the "hedgeapples" (or monkeyballs!!!) that I posted about in the previous post.  Read here and here for interesting info.  I'm going to try to get some seeds out of these "hedgeapples".  If I'm successful, I'll share.

  1. I keep looking around our woods for one of these trees because we also have lots of spiders this time of year when they come in out of the cold also. I would try seeds if you do manage to get some later. Do you let them dry out first? My guess. I love Milk Glass also, I have never seen a cookie jar before. I went halves on a punch bowl set one time when flea marketing with a friend that did not have enough money with her. The thing is she moved and I never got my half of the usage. Oh well, what are friends for right?

  2. Forgot to tell you that I like the cups you have out. I started keeping house when the browns, golds and greens were popular also and think I had my fill of them also. I had the orange/brown mushroom canister set for years and the brown stoneware. Wonder who is enjoying them now?

  3. Cindy, You did get some good finds at the sales. I never made it to one yard sale this year ...Seems my junking days are slowing down. Thanks for the info on the hedgeapples. I like the using of them to kill flys. wow. Take care, xoxo,Susie

  4. A number of years ago, we stored our RV for the winter in Iowa and were worried about critters since the storage area was next to a large field. We put a number of hedge apples in it and didn't have a single one to clean out come spring. 'Course the hedge apples were ready to be tossed by that time, but a lot easier than cleaning up after unlimited bugs and mice.
