Five on Friday...A mix of fun stuff!

I'm connecting with Amy at Love Made My Home for Five on Friday.

I spent quite a bit of time at home this week.

ONE
I did get some new 'Manager special' flowers this week at the grocery!  My Shug thought they were gorgeous, and they are.  They are very rich looking.  But....
they aren't my colors.  If you get Manager's special flowers, you can't be too picky.
Now these are my colors.  Pinks

and blues!  And they smell wonderful!

TWO

I got my hairs cut!
(I know plural is hair, without the 's',  but you know how your friends/family sometimes have your own special language.  My sister and I say hairs!)

Long...

Proof!  For those of you who always say, "I can't tell you got it cut." and I always say, "she took of several inches!"  This time she took off about six inches!  I wanted my hair even with my bangs.   And...well....I was playing around on Pinterest....and found something I liked.

After
Trying to show the back and apparently I didn't get a very good picture of it.  But it's all the same length, with a tiny bit of a special cut on the bottom.  Not really layering.  Just funky scissors making a funky cut.  Anyway, I love it because it is actually a bit of a style, and it's fast to wash and dry.

THREE

My friend makes soaps, shaving creams...all kinds of skin care products, and I bought some heart soap off of her for Valentine's day.
Here's a link

And I made this heart by following a pattern on My Rose Valley's blog, only I added random triple crochets (US) all the way around, when I was finished with Rose Valley's pattern, to make it big enough for a dish/wash cloth.  Does that make it MY pattern?
kidding

And this was a fun little gift for crochet group ladies, who give gifts for every. single. occasion!  But they are always fun little useful gifts!  And it's fun!

And while we're talking about crochet group,  I thought I'd show you what we are up to.  This is Cheryl's blanket.  It's getting BIG!
Debbie started a pillow.
I was working on my beach bag.
And Kay is making a vest!

And Susie, who is in my Purdue "Quitters" group, always pops in to say Hi to the crochet group.  She has an exercise class next door at the same time that we meet.  Well, I knew I wasn't going to be around to see her on her birthday, so I gave her a gift early.  Happy Birthday Susie!  Enjoy your tea.
FOUR
My Dixie Doodle dog hardly ever barks.  So last night, when he started going crazy, barking and shaking...I looked out to see what he was barking at!
See these two...they were trying to decide if it was safe to come on up, with all the barking going on.
They must have felt pretty safe because they hung around for about an hour.
I kept watching and there ended up being five in total, but I could never get a picture of them all together.  And keep in mind this was looking through windows.
They went to the side yard and it was hard to get any good pictures out our bedroom window, with screens, so I decided to very, very quietly sneak out of the basement door.  The plan was to walk up to the retaining wall and get some close up pictures!
shhhhhhh.....
Busted!

I edited this picture so you could see him, I did not get this close!  They have super-sonic hearing because I was really, really quiet!
Aren't they SO CUTE?

FIVE

I've been in a crafty mood this week, but I haven't had time for anything big.  So last night when I stumbled on a Daphne's Diary podcast (is that what they're called) on my computer, I had to dig out my old issues and play around a bit while I was downloading pictures to my computer.

I've been making these birds for a couple of months now.

See the bird cut out punch, and the bird cut outs?
I take junk mail and use the bird punch on it.  I didn't know what I was going to do with them, but I knew I liked them.  After watching the podcasts, there are all kinds of fun things I can do with them.  Here's a little sample.....
Junk mail.
Birds!

Cute Daphne's Diary planner....

Cuter!
And this isn't something that takes hours.  I keep the punch on the desk by the mail slot.

One of my favorite mags.  It's expensive but only comes out every other month.

Bonus picture!  Too cute not to show...
Quick nap before going to work.
Dixie looks uncomfortable but he kept putting his head on his arm like that and fell asleep.
Too cute!
Have a great weekend everyone!
And don't forget to go to Amy's blog to check out other bloggers joining in for Five on Friday!

Peace,
Cindy

Five on Friday - Some Good Things!

I'm joining Amy again for Five on Friday.

1)  Christmas!
Yes, I said CHRISTMAS!
Every year, for the month of December, I get Christmas novels out and read them, usually in the quiet of the morning, drinking coffee and admiring the lights on the tree.  Last year, Christmas kind of came and went. But the other day, something in my brain snapped!  I went to the library, and dug through my bookpile, and got my Christmas book stash ready.  I'm starting early this year!  I don't have the tree up and I'm not admiring the lights yet, but I'm preparing for the Holiday!  I've been living in one room in a basement for 3 1/2 years peeps.
We're upstairs!
Christmas?
Bring it Baby!
And I went to my First Christmas open house yesterday after crochet group.
I am serious about this Christmas spirit thing!
I stopped by a local bakery, J. Edwards, and they had these yummy looking cupcakes.  They also have a lot of other stuff, including chocolates...

and I loved how the place was decorated!

2)  Deer
Beware of them.  Tis the season for them to be running around.  When I went to Michigan the other day, I saw about eight of them on the side of the road that had been hit by cars.
And this folks...is the Biggest buck I've ever seen!
Only buck I've ever seen on our property!
I know, it's not too close up.  There were three deer, two a few feet in front of the buck.  I saw them first, then I saw the buck, then he saw me, and they trotted off into the woods.
(stay hidden Bucky Boy-tis the season for hunting too!)

3) Crochet group

Debbie's blanket...almost finished I think.
 K's blanket.  Finished!  Told ya....
Cheryl got her mess of yarn straightened out!

and I'm still working on my blanket.  I don't even know what I'll add next
...something for the top and bottom.  I'm winging it.

 4)  The Cubs!!!
Well I have to admit, as we were watching the Cubbies the other night...I fell asleep.  We were just all so snuggly.  Poor Dixie Doodle though, isn't allowed in our bed, so he had to be taken to his own bed, after a few minutes of snuggling.
As the Cubs won...I couldn't help but think of my Uncle Donald.  At every family gathering on my Dad's side of the family, I always remember him in a lawn chair with a radio right by him, listening to the Cubbies. See the radio in the left hand bottom corner.  This picture was taken in 1984 or 1985.
He passed away this year, April 2016.   I think he had a chat with God!  I know he is celebrating in heaven!

 5)  VCR!

So, I've been digging through our basement.  Trying to get the room we used to live in, in some kind of order.  I've had to drag furniture and stuff out of different areas of the basement...things that have been stored for years, and it's turned into one Big Fat Honkin' Mess!
I've forgotten about a lot of stuff, and I've decided I don't need a lot of stuff.  (need anything?  I probably have it!)
Anyway, I found a bunch of VCR tapes of Martha Stewart (yes I'm a fan) back in the "Turkey Hill days" when she had a Sunday morning, half hour show.  I would have to record them because I would be at church.  We'd go out to eat and I'd come home and watch them in the afternoon.  Well, I also had a tv stored in the basement, that had a vcr player in it, so I put a Martha tape in and voila', it worked!  For about an hour. (sad face)
So, one evening this week, my Shug and I went everywhere looking for VCR/DVD players.  I know, right!
The only place we could find one was Wal-Mart to the tune of 189.00!!!!  I was ready to get the wallet out!  Well...it was for Martha!  But then...we decided to go to the Goodwill.  Now, I thought of that before mind you, but he made some comment about not wanting to burn the house down....but guess what?  As luck would have it...voila' again!  VCR machines for 6 bills each!  YEP $6.00.  We bought one.  Brought it home, and
 so far, so good!

Or should I say,
"It's a Good Thing!"

So, as I'm cleaning up my basement, I'm watching Martha episodes.  I can't wait to get it finished, get a table in there, and sew and craft and watch Martha!  I'll show you before and after pics, when I get it done.  It's too embarrassing to show you right now! (red face)

Little bits and pieces of my life

The last few days I have been busy, as always.
My friend Marcia came over today and we moved boxes around to clear a space for my Shug to work on heat duct work in our house.  We have decided to put another register and heat duct going into the kitchen.  This picture is a room under our kitchen.  It has EVERYTHING in it from our other house.  Every drawer, every room, every nook and cranny came into this room.  And those aren't boxes of alcohol.  They are canning jars!

I've also been working in the craft room.  Thing is...I get side tracked!
I found this yarn, which K reminded me about a few weeks ago.  I completely forgot we bought it.
After piddling around with it, I settled on granny squares.
I got the pattern from Lucy at Attic 24's blog.

 I'm making a bag....because Lord knows...I need another bag!

Now...this....makes me mad!  I will not upset you by showing you the gruesome pictures......
but we have neighbors that allow their dogs to run loose.  And last year, after three of them killed a baby deer, we warned them not to let them loose again, lest they never come home.

Well....the other day my Shug saw a deer running like crazy.  Then he saw one of the dogs running behind it.  He got his gun and shot behind the dog to scare it away.    Then he saw something sticking up out of the pond.  Sure enough...a deer. My  Shug called the DNR and a conservation officer came out and he made an official complaint.   The officer went and warned the owner of the dog, who happens to have a very HUGE cross in his yard and claims to be a preacher man.
He said he would "Try" to keep his dog penned up.
So, the next day my Shug and a neighbor went and got the deer out of the frozen pond.  The pond was not frozen solid enough to hold much weight. We firmly believe the dog ran a deer into the pond and it drowned.

So, last Friday, My Shug ground some venison and I packaged it and froze it.

You might think this is a horrible thing to do.  But, it's better than letting that deer's life be a total waste.

I also made waffles from this old waffle iron.  It reminded me of when I first met Dave's Mom.  She took me to some garage sales and this waffle iron was in a free box!  I snatched it up and have used it for 25 years!  It reminds me of the one my Mom used to use when she cooked waffles for us as kids.  I remember being shocked that this was in a FREE box at the garage sale!
I've been painting trim....I paint trim every week.

I made this little vignette with little Christmas ornaments and doo-dads.  That took all of five minutes!

I planted some allysum that I got in this little pot at Target for 50cents!
And one of my narcissus flowers blossomed!  I love planting bulbs in the winter months in pots.
I've been doing a lot of sorting since Christmas.  Sorting stuff to take upstairs to the bedroom, the bathroom, and now that we have heat in the entire house, I've been sorting in the back rooms (a little bit at a time.)

And I've been sorting pictures....not to worry, I AM STILL going to post Christmas pictures!!!  I have a fun game to show you.
