In my blog I plan to chat about nature, crafts, baking, gardening, beekeeping, family, and whatever else seems appropriate at the time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Okaloosa Island/Ft. Walton Beach/Destin

My Sister, her daughter, her daughter's friend, and I left on Friday for Okaloosa Island.
We made it there Saturday evening.
I have to say, as always with Spring Break, there was a bunch of traffic jams.
The worst was the second day, in Alabama.
But we made it and after checking out our unit, we went to Margaritaville for dinner.

Sunday, we spent the day on the beach, relaxing and soaking up the sun.
I surprised them with a Penthouse suite that had a private hot tub on the rooftop deck.
We have a nice view of the bay.
This place has nice pools for the kids, but I will tell you later why I'm not coming back!
We decided on Sunday evening  to go to McGuires Irish Pub for dinner.  There was a guy there playing live Irish music.
This place has dollar bills stapled on the ceilings, the walls, everywhere!  That's what these people were doing.
They have really good fried fish and French fries.
And yummy cheeseburgers.  Those are French fries stuck to her sandwich.
That evening Theresa and I enjoyed wine on the balcony.

Wine and chocolate

On Monday we decided to go shopping in a very quaint town called Seaside.
We discovered this little area on the way to Seaside.  It's called Grayton.

Who doesn't love to shop in artsy towns,

with bright colored buildings,
a wall painted with every kind of dog there is,
and brightly painted beach chairs.

Then we got back in the car and got on Highway 30A and it was bumper to bumper.
Because we were going soooooooo slow, we could take a few pictures along the way.
So these are for your relaxing pleasure!

Seaside was so crowded that we didn't even try to get out.  Literally took about three hours to get to a place that should have taken 40 minutes.  So we went next door to Seacrest and Rosemary Beach.
We went to a place called Small Cakes.  We went there last year and I didn't get one.  I said I was going to get one this year, but was waffling when Reese said YOLO (you only live once)
What you do is pick out a cupcake, then pick a flavor, or two, of ice cream.  They split the cupcake in two.  The bottom half goes in the bottom of the cup, then the ice cream, then the top half of the cup cake.

None of us could finish one of these.  They were yummy though!
Remember these poor little slider turtles.  I thought there was a law that people couldn't sell them anymore, but they were for sale in one of the stores we were in.

More cute shopping huts in Seacrest.
Taylor walked up to us and said she bought this purse and I LOVE IT!  I sent this picture to our Mom and asked who she looked like!  ME in the 70's!
I LOVE THESE BAGS!

Shopping in Rosemary Beach.

Everyone was riding bikes everywhere.  We talked about renting them and riding back to Seaside, but after these little towns, we were done shopping.

Taking a break and making dinner plans.

We decided to go to a place called The Mellow Mushroom and order pizza and salad.

The pizza was delicious but the decorations were the fun part of the place.

More coming.............

    1. It has been a great time. And yes the traffic has been annoying. I’ve never been down here when it’s been this crowded, and we were down here last year at this time.

  4. Hey Cindy. Glad you enjoyed your trip. Seagrove and Grayton Beach have been around for many, many years. Seaside, Rosemary, Seacrest, Watercolor and most of those others are johnny come lately upstarts. You shoulda seen those gorgeous beaches before all that development took place. I took a drive along 30A back in November when I was home and I just about wanted to cry.
