Forget the oatmeal

Have I told you about my insomnia problem?  Apparently my mg's of Melatonin need to be increased from 3 to about 20.  At least that's what  my groovy nurse friend say.  She says, "Bee, the only thing 3 mg's are gonna do is make you crochet a little slower."
She's right.  I wake up every night between 1:00 - 2:30, wide awake.

And I was excited last evening because my Shug was going to be off of work today (Friday).  Well, he tells me last night when I get home from crocheting, that he is working.
"WHAT?" I exclaim loudly,
"I bought bacon!"
I was looking forward to sleeping in, and getting up and fixing bacon and oatmeal.  In my head the fatty bacon balances out the 'good for you' oatmeal.  My favorite breakfast at home is two pieces of bacon and oatmeal.  But when I woke up at 2:00 a.m. I laid there thinking about that bacon and I decided, forget the oatmeal, dammit, I'm having a full-blown BLT.

So while we are waiting on this bacon to fry, I thought I'd show you one very cool Christmas present I received this year.
It's called a pick punch.  And I've asked all of my friends to start saving their gift cards, hotel room keys, etc.

And one friend gave me a huge stack of them!  I'm not saying she thieved them, I'm not saying she didn't, and don't ask me who it was 'cause I am not telling, o"K"ay!
Thanks for the cards, friend, you know who you are!
So, you take a card...

Turn the pick punch over so you can see the placement of the hole

 and you punch!
 Voila'!  Guitar pick!

 Wanna see it again?

I can usually get three picks per card.

Pretty cool huh?

Bacon sandwich is done and I'm wondering if these grape tomatoes will work on a sandwich.  Have I started my "I miss summer" tirade yet?  {heavy sigh}  fresh tomatoes, warm weather, sunshine....
Told ya I was eating the entire sandwich...sans oatmeal...

 I ain't playin'....

But here's the thing....and do not tell anyone ok?
I had to make myself learn to like tomatoes.
barely like too...
not love...
not go out into the warm sunshine with a salt shaker and eat them off the vine like everyone talks about, love.
I started out slicing them really really really thin and putting them on samurs.  (We call sandwiches, samurs, because when my sister was learning to talk, that's what she called them.  You find when there are children in your life, you change your vocabulary a bit.  I even have friends that call them samurs.  Hmm, I should spell it sameurs...looks french doesn't it.)
Anyway, I was an Advanced Master Gardener, Coordinator of the Community Garden in our town, Master Naturalist, and President of the Master Gardener Association for two years and I DO NOT LIKE "Maters.  Shhh...don't tell. I love to grow them though!

mmm here we go....the finished product.

I couldn't decide which one of these pics I liked best, so I left them both on here!

PS - I ate that sameur while I was writing this post and it upset my stomach!

  1. I haven't had a BLT in so long ... that looks yummy! Contemplating a quick dash to the supermarket in the rain for some bacon .... and i LOVE tomatoes. Tomatoes, onions and garlic - the three things I can never run out of.

I'm having problems sleeping too - just 2.5 hours last night. Andy didn't believe I sleep so little most of the time, so he bought me a gadget to track how much sleep I get and it was even less than I thought I was getting!! Now just to work out why and fix the problem (I was blaming my arm but that's getting better, so it can't be that!). Hope you sort your insomnia out!

    1. Fiona,

Don't do it! It'll upset your stomach!
I think the lack of sleep is a hormonal thing for women. I know too many of our species that do not sleep.

  3. Lull-la-bye and, goodnight Cindy that's a big BLT. You made me laugh though, getting up to cook bacon. But you have my sympathy...I long to sleep the night through. I have insomnia too. You may not be turning off your brain when you go to bed. Do you think about everything that has to get done. Just reading your blog, I know you have many irons in the fire. I wish you peaceful sleep, and good eating. xoxo,Susie

    1. My friend, Mandy, called me this morning and said, "Guurrlll that is one Big sameur!" I looked at the pic and thought, she's right. See, I don't think straight when I don't get enough sleep. Glad it made you laugh though.

  4. Here's my story... I started out on Benadryl, but that would make me rummy the next day. So then I went to Meletonin. Worked well at first then not so much so I kept upping the dose until I was taking FOUR a night. I decided that might be dumb so I called my doc and he prescribed Ambian. Works like a charm and I sleep like a baby :)
Thi pick puncher. I totally dig it! Where do I find one and do you have to use hotel "keys" my stepdaughter would go bananas for something like that, but we never go farther than the grocery store.

    1. Marilyn,
The pick punch was ordered online. Just google Pick punch and it'll come up. You can use gift cards, hotel room keys, and charge cards.
Ambien sounds like a good idea. I saw on the news today that if a women doesn't get 7 or more hours of sleep, she is at higher risk for a heart attack. s c a r y

  6. Peeps I did not eat or cook that blt at 2:00 am. I woke up at 2:00 a.m. I laid there trying to go back to sleep for THREE HOURS, then I got up and made the blt, when my Shug went to work. We are living in ONE ROOM and he would kill me if I started cooking bacon at 2:00 a.m. when he is snoring away.

  7. Hi
    Cindy Bee,

First of all, how does the bacon and the oatmeal go together? do you eat the oatmeal first? or do you make a sandwich with oatmeal and bacon on it? or do you have a bowl of oatmeal with strips of bacon on top.......?

Second. Don't eat the tomatoes. There is no rule that says you have to.

Third. My daughter would love the guitar pick. But my purse would probably end up with holes cut in all the cards.

Fourth. Sleep thing. Been there. Drugs help but I didnt like being on them for long, great for short term though. Best thing that worked was a complete overhaul of what I ate, and I found healing scriptures in the bible and I meditated on them.

    cheers

Oh I love your little gadget what a cool thing to do with the room keys. I have a collection of phone cards that are small but I am thinking it would work for them too. I must find one of them for my brother and daughters who play guitar. Very Cool. Gotta go hungry drat no bacon or tomato:) B

    1. Did you make your sandwich?
I think any kind of card would work as long as it wasn't too thick.

  10. I totally understand the not sleeping part.. I wake up all night long every couple hours. When its really bad I take a tylenol pm or rather when I think I can't sleep.. So far it helps. or a Benadryl..Bacon looks yummy and the sandwich first class. But I am sorry to say not at that time of the morning.. my stomach would scream at me..lol.. The pic punch is awesome can be used for all kinds of things... Other than the sleeping or lack of hope your well... snowing out again this morning. All is white. Wish it would warm up too cause I have been freezing..hugs to you Mausie

  11. Hey Mausie,

Honey I hate to say it but you have so many reasons why you are not sleeping and I'm so sorry for your loss. Give yourself time. Hang in there, spring will be here soon. A new season, and warmer weather.
