Grandpa's spider plant!

This picture popped up on my facebook feed this morning as a memory of last year.  Which reminded me of one of the many things from last summer that I never posted about.
So, this is our parents with their bestest of friends ever.  They have been friends since they were kids.  Especially Dad and Don. I think they grew up together.  Last summer they went on a bus trip, and the bus picked them up in Logansport.   My parents asked me to drop them off so that they wouldn't have a car over there all week long.  Sure... I could use one more thing to do (wink)!  And they had to be there at some unreasonable morning hour like 6:00 am which means I had to leave at 5:00 am.
This photo was taken when I picked them up.  On FB I posted, "picking the kids up from summer camp!"
But back to dropping them off.
After dropping them off, I went to cousin Vickie's house to drop something off...I think maybe donuts from Dan's or something like that.  The plan was to just hang them on the door and head to cousin Gloria's house, but no can do!  Harley, their dog, went nuts!  Not to mention the motion light that went off and lit up their entire back yard!  Lights started coming on in their house, so I hung out until someone came to the door.

So I talked Vickie into going with me to cousin Gloria's house!  You can see how dark it is outside.  It was early...
I called Gloria and acted like I was just chitty chatting, but did not tell her we were on our way over!  When we got there, I told her to go look in her driveway, that I had a surprise for her.

Yep, Dan's donuts. (it's a Kokomo thing)
We sat and chatted for at least an hour, maybe two!
ACK!!!!No make up!  It was early!!!
And as we were leaving her house that day, I saw a spider plant on her porch.  I asked her about it.  The reason I asked was because I remembered her having a spider plant that she got from our Grandpa's bedroom.  He passed in 1992 or 1993?  (Gloria will know!)  Anyway, ages ago she had given me a start of this spider plant, that was in his bedroom, and I don't even remember what happened to it.  But, I asked her for another start.
This would have been my Mom's Dad.  And he was all of our Grandpa.

I came home and potted up the starts.  All but one are doing quite well.
This one is even quite fertile, as it has baby starts!
(I'm going to name it "Hardy" - teehee)
This one, not doing so well but hanging in there!
I have put them in the windowsill in our living/dining room.  I plan on decorating the house with heirlooms, plants, and family/travel pictures.
So that's the spider plant story that I promised a blog post about when I talked about them here!
Do you have any special plant stories?

Little bits and pieces of my life

The last few days I have been busy, as always.
My friend Marcia came over today and we moved boxes around to clear a space for my Shug to work on heat duct work in our house.  We have decided to put another register and heat duct going into the kitchen.  This picture is a room under our kitchen.  It has EVERYTHING in it from our other house.  Every drawer, every room, every nook and cranny came into this room.  And those aren't boxes of alcohol.  They are canning jars!

I've also been working in the craft room.  Thing is...I get side tracked!
I found this yarn, which K reminded me about a few weeks ago.  I completely forgot we bought it.
After piddling around with it, I settled on granny squares.
I got the pattern from Lucy at Attic 24's blog.

 I'm making a bag....because Lord knows...I need another bag!

Now...this....makes me mad!  I will not upset you by showing you the gruesome pictures......
but we have neighbors that allow their dogs to run loose.  And last year, after three of them killed a baby deer, we warned them not to let them loose again, lest they never come home.

Well....the other day my Shug saw a deer running like crazy.  Then he saw one of the dogs running behind it.  He got his gun and shot behind the dog to scare it away.    Then he saw something sticking up out of the pond.  Sure enough...a deer. My  Shug called the DNR and a conservation officer came out and he made an official complaint.   The officer went and warned the owner of the dog, who happens to have a very HUGE cross in his yard and claims to be a preacher man.
He said he would "Try" to keep his dog penned up.
So, the next day my Shug and a neighbor went and got the deer out of the frozen pond.  The pond was not frozen solid enough to hold much weight. We firmly believe the dog ran a deer into the pond and it drowned.

So, last Friday, My Shug ground some venison and I packaged it and froze it.

You might think this is a horrible thing to do.  But, it's better than letting that deer's life be a total waste.

I also made waffles from this old waffle iron.  It reminded me of when I first met Dave's Mom.  She took me to some garage sales and this waffle iron was in a free box!  I snatched it up and have used it for 25 years!  It reminds me of the one my Mom used to use when she cooked waffles for us as kids.  I remember being shocked that this was in a FREE box at the garage sale!
I've been painting trim....I paint trim every week.

I made this little vignette with little Christmas ornaments and doo-dads.  That took all of five minutes!

I planted some allysum that I got in this little pot at Target for 50cents!
And one of my narcissus flowers blossomed!  I love planting bulbs in the winter months in pots.
I've been doing a lot of sorting since Christmas.  Sorting stuff to take upstairs to the bedroom, the bathroom, and now that we have heat in the entire house, I've been sorting in the back rooms (a little bit at a time.)

And I've been sorting pictures....not to worry, I AM STILL going to post Christmas pictures!!!  I have a fun game to show you.

More Summertime Fun!

Something else I did for summertime fun.  I bought some tropicals.  I don't usually buy tropicals, but since we've moved, I have East facing windows, and my one tropical plant seems to love it.  Plus, I got them for a good price, one was marked half price....how could I resist?  I told my Shug I was bringing them inside for the winter...he told me I wasn't....me thinks me am!

It all started because I wanted a jasmine plant.  They have them in the South like we have honeysuckle here.  And I knew one year I found a jasmine at the Wal-Mart.  I don't usually shop there, I simply prefer smaller stores.  I'm a run in and run out kind of gal.
 But shop there I did!

 Our tropical patio now!

Debating on getting her a fern to hold instead of this little pot of leftovers!
I bought a pedestal sink at a garage sale from The Vintage Farmhouse and we never used it.  Apparently pedestal sinks are very hard to plumb behind.  Who knew?  My Shug, that's who!  However, it came in handy for our air conditioner we had to install!  It's getting hot, even in this basement. And there is tons of humidity down here.
My jasmine plant.  I hope I don't run into this plant, but even if I do....it won't break this time!
Remember this?  yup, it hit my car (durango actually)

You can see how easy it is to run into things.....the 'plan' was to put some sort of a hedge between the patio and driveway, but the gravel delivery man put the gravel all the way up to the patio and well, it just created more work.
Looks like a bad hair day!
I never did name her.  But I've decided between Louise's comment of Thalia, the prettiest daffodil and one of the 9 muses, or
Vickie's comment, Jasmine.  I've decided all names shall be flower names.  And when/if we ever get Coral Belle finished (haven't even started on her) then Thalia/Jasmine will probably live with Coral Belle....

since my Shug doesn't much like her!  So what do you think....Jasmine or Thalia!
