In my blog I plan to chat about nature, crafts, baking, gardening, beekeeping, family, and whatever else seems appropriate at the time. Sit back, relax, and enjoy!

Mostly Horton's

This is where I am sitting, only this picture was taken a couple of days ago, during the day, after I put flowers in vases throughout the house.  It's after 7:00 am right now and still dark outside this window. It's supposed to cool off quite a bit this week, so I do believe Fall is here, whether I want it to be or not!

Saturday morning I was getting ready to leave for Horton's Fall open house when this truck pulled up, blocking the driveway.  That's ok, he didn't take long.  And inside that box is a big honkin' generator. We ordered it a couple of weeks ago.  That's right blogettes....we've been living here about four years now, and we've had two tornadoes and no power more than that.  My Shug and I were talking about how we never would have dreamed of getting a generator, but this last time, was the last time.  Besides, now that we've made the investment, we'll probably never need it, which is just fine with me!

So the truck driver dropped off the generator and left.  And since My Shug is in a cast for four more weeks, and several weeks of recovery after that, I think the generator is going to be sitting in our drive for awhile.  (speaking of Shugs, I'm a bit concerned.  I think he is on the verge of pneumonia.  He's had a cough since before surgery, but do you think he will go to the Dr.)

Anyway, back to Horton's....this is the first time I did not take any pictures.  So, I will now send you over to Susie's blog, She Junks, to see pictures of Horton's fall decorations.  You are going to love this place.   My  neighbor, Kim, asked me to go with her and when we first got there I heard someone say my name.   Susie!  HI!  And see that cute little pumpkin...well she made it...and gave it to me!  How thoughtful.  THANK YOU SUSIE!
Cute huh?  I'm trying to get things ready for a garage sale this Thursday and Friday in my parents neighborhood, so I haven't had much time to decorate for Fall.  But hopefully, soon.
The first booth I walked into had this candy mold marked down to $10!  Yes, please.
And because I spent "X" amount of money I was told I could pick out two pieces of fudge!  I'm not a fudge eater...so I told Kim she could pick it out if she wanted to.  Well, I thought he meant two sample pieces of fudge....
(I bought these two tops at Horton's.  They are now carrying clothes and I really like them.  This makes the third top I've bought at their store!  My wardrobe is a changin'.)

Back to the fudge....So Kim says it was "real" pieces of fudge, not samples.  So she gave one to me. My Shug made fudge sandwiches...

  Who says men can't cook!!!
After we left Horton's we walked next door where there were a bunch of vendors selling odds and ends.  I bought this pillow.  It doesn't really go in my room, but I loved it, and it doesn't really NOT go, right?
It was a fun morning at Horton's and I got home in time to get some things done and have date with My Shug.  We went to see The Magnificent Seven at the theatre.

Yesterday we discovered this praying mantis on the side of one of my beehives.  Have you ever seen one with that big of a body?  I'm thinking there's a male praying mantis with no head out there somewhere, because she looks pregnant to me!

This is the only glimpse of sunset that I get unless I'm out walking, because I can't see it from our porch, where I was sitting last night, because of the trees.  But I'm guessing it must have been beautiful.  It looked like the woods was on fire.

It's now 7:45 a.m. and just now starting to get light outside.  My back hurts sitting in this chair for so long, so I think I shall go to the couch and read a bit.  I am in need of a relaxing morning.  I hope you have a great day.

Horton's of Tipton

On Saturday, Horton's of Tipton had a Spring Open House and my friend, Teresa, and I went.  I love the aqua furniture in the window display.
She had visions of spring everywhere.
If I come across some eggs while looking for Easter decorations,I believe I'll make some of these little nests.
I thought these forks with corks would be a good idea to mark food...such as different types of cheeses on a platter.  You could also use them for name place 'cards' at the holiday table.
And can't you see this set-up if you had a booth somewhere that you sold stuff in.
And this umbrella covered in doilies! Love Love Love!  And all of the cute little faux' lettuce, and carrots, and peas...adorbs I tell ya.
  Cute gift idea...shelf sitter.

She has a knack for taking everyday items and making them look great in a....ooooh....what's the word.....when you have a grouping of something........not an ensemble.....Anyway, you know what I mean.  And by the way, love that red suitcase!
THIS reminded me that I have something similar but I don't think I have enough wall space for it in my kitchen.  Boohoo!
She had tea cups hanging in windows hanging by ribbons, as well as blue ball jars, and other such fun items.  I thought about doing that for my kitchen curtains since I can't seem to find any that I like.
And then there was the pansies.....oooooh the pansies....and some stock and snapdragons too!
There were things about Horton's that I never noticed before, like this moss covered wall!  There are usually vendors set up in front of it while I'm visiting.  Or it's too cold to be outside.  But Saturday was a beautiful day.

Teresa and I split a flat of flowers....
 Don't they look gorgeous together.

After Horton's, we happened to go by a store around the corner that had unusual items for sale, old and repurposed alike.  I didn't buy anything there, but then we went to a church that was having a few crafty things and other home party type things for sale.  I did buy a short-jacket type top  that I might wear for Easter, depending on the weather....and then....we went to Goodwill.

I had to buy this old-fashioned bag.  It looks kind of like a carpetbag.  I went to a Downton Abbey party a couple of weeks ago with my sister, and this purse would have been perfect!
Look inside....It's divided.  I've never seen anything like it.
And it's hard to see but I bought this huge milk glass punch bowl.  I have a collection of milk glass stuff that I've bought over the years of going to garage sales.  If I put it all together, I'd probably have quite a set!  I'll put that on my list!
I always come home motivated to decorate when I go to Horton's.  Their French Flea Market is in July.  You should make plans to go.

Don't forget to check out our kitchen if you haven't done so already.  I'm so excited about it!

Scattered 50's Syndrome!

A couple of weeks ago, we had "therapy" at Groovy Girl Yarn...and peeps I tell you what....
by the time last week was over, I needed it!

Of course, hanging out with women, at the yarn store, IS therapy.
I believe we were trying to figure out what "our fire" was/is, when we were getting our therapy.  It started with me making the comment that I have too many hobbies, and I can't figure out what to give up and what to keep.
One thing I can figure out all by myself, when I'm so busy I just want to cry, then  I am too busy to do anything about my fire, even if I know what it is.  And my "therapist" says I have
"Scattered 50's Syndrome!"
Apparently my number one love is for nature, which encompasses flowers, gardening, and beekeeping.  I do, however, need to drop some hives.
I also need to finish Coral Belle, have some craft shows,
and get organized.
(I can't even keep one room organized.)

So, in an effort to work on the crazy-ness,  I told my Shug a couple of days ago, that I am not doing another thing for this house, until I finish some stuff  I've already started. I didn't even know where to start, to finish stuff, including with my blog!
With my blog, I decided to start with the therapy day and move through last week.

The Saturday after I discovered I have Scattered 50's Syndrome,
I decided to take a day of fun and go to
Horton's Fall Festival in Tipton, IN, with my cousin Vickie.
(I worked all week on our house, getting ready for a family reunion, but we canceled because of the rain. So I felt relaxed with things at that time.)
Horton's had a lot of doily, lace, and burlap pumpkins.
And they were really cute.
Seems doilies were the theme for the day...

I had to be different and buy this spider bracelet!
Nicki, from The Vintage Farmhouse wanted some of my honey, and I wanted a lacey pumpkin, so we traded!
After Horton's we had to stop at a local building supply type store to get a new umbrella for our table outside.  We like the one we bought here a couple of years ago.
Do you see what is wrong with this picture?  I did not get an umbrella.  Halloween isn't even here yet for crying out loud!!!
Whenever I have a spare moment,
I squeeze in a bit of crocheting, which is something I really enjoy.  Why do I have to squeeze in stuff I really enjoy?

Not to worry peeps....I'm getting some R&R...and things are ok now...but last week

was a bear!

I saw this on facebook and it reminded me of
Edited.....On my computer this box shows up, but by the comments I'm getting it is not showing up on your computer.  It is one of those sayings that goes around on facebook.  It says,

What doesn't kill you
makes you stronger.
Except for bears,
bears will kill you.

I keep telling Buttons this, she won't listen.  She goes out in the bush, on her own, with only a bell to scare the bears away.
Jane, she stays inside when the bears are out!

Rough week

Ok let me just say it's been a rough week.  And since I haven't posted in awhile, I'm gonna recap a bit.
Last Thursday my Shug took half a day off of work and my nephew came up and we moved some furniture pieces that would help with storage.  Dressers, cabinets, and shelves. Heavy stuff.  This particular unit was in the upstairs of our garage.
We moved it to the room next to our bedroom in the new house.  I was all motivated to get stuff put away, until it hit me.  The stomach flu.  Ack....I threw up every 20-30 minutes the entire night on Sunday.  I know, too much information.  Well I could get a lot more detailed....but I won't.  Let me just say it's been rough.  I haven't left the house since Sunday evening and it's now Thursday.
And on top of that, my computer hasn't been working.  Until now.
What in thee hell peeps?
Please, will someone tell me why it works some days, hours, weeks...and then it just quits.  The best way I can describe it is it's like a starter on a car when it's going bad.  It grinds and acts like it's going to start up, then it goes down.  This morning,I tried half a dozen times and so far it's working.  Last week it worked fine every day. If you have any answers please let me know.
Anyway, this is the shelving unit they were moving.  It's going to help tremendously.
On Saturday, before the dreaded flu...my friend Teresa and I went to Horton's in Tipton, IN.
This is what the entrance into their restroom looks like now.  Love it.
I saw a sled at a sale somewhere and I didn't buy it because it was in rough shape.  I wish I did! They painted this one white and glittered it. Cute idea for a worn out sled.
I always come home from there so motivated, then never know where to start.
But start I did!  My friend and I stopped at a garage sale on the way to Horton's and I bought this for $5.00!  My Shug and I have been wanting a plant stand for our patio.  This would be perfect if it wasn't too rough.  It was missing all kinds of bolts and it was pretty rusty.  But for $5.00 I figure I could scrap it.

Shug changed the ball on top of it to this pineapple thingy,
sanded some of the rust
added bolts, and painted it.  Ok so maybe he is the one that got creative, not me!  But I bought the stand to begin with, so that's something!  I had the vision!
 And here it is!
And this is half of our patio.  See those windows, those are the windows in the room we're living in.  Room.
He also painted this birdcage yellow, because he felt we had too much green going on.  And I gave him a couple of Patti Beck birds to put in it.  Cute!
The other half of our patio.  More windows.  I reckon I should take a full on picture, but I didn't.  Next time maybe.  We'll add greenery and such to our patio next summer.  This is just a start.
The other thing I did was get this mess of costume jewelry all sorted out. What a mess.  It kinda got jumbled when we moved it.  I needed an idea for my earrings so I got on pinterest and got part of an idea.  Take an old picture frame and put burlap in it (they used screen wire) and hang the earrings on the burlap.  I can't find my burlap. Anywhere.  I looked and looked.  It must be at the other house.  I am not buying more burlap...or screen for that matter.
I did find my yarn though (not hard to do) and finished this hat I made for my Mom, if she wants it.  She hinted around that she wanted one.

Ok - so this whole time my computer is still up and running.  I feel like I should keep on blogging....I won't....not to worry.  I hope to visit you all and comment before it shuts down on me....but who knows.  I do keep up on my phone, but I'm so slow typing on my phone.

I just want to say one more thing....if you made it this far...

I would like to point out a particular post I'm impressed with if you have a chance please read it.  It's Blether's (see my side bar) and it's her political rant post.  Very inspirational.  Very well written.
